The interior restoration was started on Monday 3rd February 2003.
At this stage, I have completed everything except for the seat belts.
Old Vs. New Panels:
Old Vs. New Front Seats
Old Vs. New Rear Seats
Old Vs. New Carpets
Progress
31st March 2004: Bonnet carpeted. Just plain and simple. You don't even want to see what it looked like before! Completed shot:
10th December: Next upgrade will either be retractable front seat belts or tidying up and carpetting the bonnet. Stay tuned.
9th December: New carpet installed and the two red vinyl strips on either side of the rear window were changed to blue, see pics above
5th December: On the 8th and 9th I am having the interior recarpeted. This will consist of four floor carpets, carpet along the tunnel and carpet in the front footwell and against the firewall. Pictures should be online by late afternoon on the 9th.
4th September 2003: In the rear seat comparison photos just above, you can see on either side of the rear window two posts covered in red vinyl. Within the next two weeks these will be changed to either white or blue. Pics will be provided. Retractable seatbelts for the two front seats should also be installed within two to three weeks.
10th June 2003: The rear bench seat has been retrimmed to match the Aerotechs.
4th June 2003: Getting a lot done at the moment! Next week I am having the rear bench retrimmed too! Check back Tuesday evening for photos.
2nd June 2003: Aerotech Octane seats have been retrimmed with new foam inserts.
29th May 2003: The Aerotech Octane seats have been installed and will be retrimmed next week. I will put pictures up then.
23rd May 2003: The Aerotech seats are being installed on Wednesday 28th May. This involves purchasing the Aerotech rails and having them custom-fitted to my floor. Each seat will take about 4 hours to install. I have ordered two custom sets of centre cushions from Aerotech in Melbourne. These should also arrive next week. Stay tuned for updates.
21st May 2003: I have purchased two new Aerotech Octane seats. I have also stripped the carpet from the interior floor. Stay tuned for updated pictures.
5th May 2003: I am going to sell my Velo GP90 driver's seat and buy two new sports seats for the front. Stay tuned for updates.
31st March 2003: Not much news at the moment. Considering the idea of having checkerplate flooring installed...
11th March: Here's a picture of the new doortrims. I wanted just one huge Beetle design on each door but the trimmers thought it would look it bit strange so this is the result! Now just the seats and carpet to go!
10th March: The front door trims will take slightly longer than anticipated. They will be completed tomorrow so be sure to check back late afternoon.
4th March: I have changed my mind again and decided to carry on with the interior rather than add another carburettor. On Monday 10th March I will be having the front door panels re-upholstered. Check back on Monday afternoon for pictures!
16th February: The interior restoration is being put on hold while I work on the engine and add a new Webber carburettor.
4th February: The rear side panels have been covered and installed. They came out looking great even though at the moment they don't match the rest of the interior!
29th January: Next week, I am having the 2 rear side panels I made, covered. At this stage, I am going to stick with a white and blue interior. Blue to match the paint and white because it really stands out. The rear side panels will most likely be in blue, carpets blue, seats white with maybe 2 blue stripes going down the back seat in the spots where people sit so that it doesn't get that dirty and to liven it up a bit and then front door panels white.
22nd January: I made 2 new side panels to replace the back ones because they were warped and cracked.
